Tribal rituals
The state-of-the-art fusion band Lost Tribe reunites with guitar hero David Gilmore for one killer show at Makor.

Lost Tribe is the brainchild of alto saxophonist/composer David Binney.
The group's scorching 1993 self-titled debut was produced by Steely Dan's
Walter Becker and featured a powerful mix of infectious rhythms, funky
syncopations and soaring melodies. With the in-the-pocket rhythm section
of Fima Ephron on electric bass and Ben Perowsky (Dave Douglas, Jim
Beard, Mike Stern, Liminal) on drums and samples, and the dual guitar team
of Adam Rodgers (Randy Brecker, Bill Evans) and David Gilmore, two of
the most creative and in-demand players on the New York scene, Lost
Tribe established itself as one of the most powerful and creative
voices in fusion in the post-Weather-Report era.

After the departure of David Gilmore (who's since played with
such heavyweights as Don Byron, Steve Coleman and Wayne Shorter), Lost
Tribe went on to record two follow-up albums as a quartet. Although not
as powerful as their debut, 1994's "Soulfish" and 1998's "Many
Lifetimes" provided a steaming mix of rock, rap, jazz, fusion and funk
as what is arguably one of the most creative working bands out there.
On December 16, the original Lost Tribe (including Gilmore) and
augmented by Jodi Howard will reunite for a performance at Makor on the
Upper West Side. The $10 cover charge is a bargain for the jaw-dropping musicianship you will hear during this
one-off reunion gig. Expect creative, funky interplay between Rogers and
Gilmore, intricate grooves from Ephron and Perowsky and beautiful alto
lines from David Binney as this exceptional lineup redefines fusion.
